Around 3PM on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, Judge Barry G. Williams declared the William Porter case a mistrial. After 16 hours of deliberations, the jury was stuck in a deadlock.
Officer Porter was charged with manslaughter, assault and reckless endangerment and misconduct in office Attorney regarding the death of Freddie Gray back in mid-April. (New York Times).
Below are photographs of demonstrations held in front of City Hall the night of the mistrial ruling.
Protesters briefly took to nearby streets such as Baltimore Street, and ventured east to President Street. At President Street, law enforcement prevented protesters from marching any farther (i.e. I-83 entrance blocked off), and the group returned to City Hall.
Back at City Hall, protesters interrupted television news crews, stepping in front of cameras and arguing with reporters.
